The original creators of the well-known ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has claimed that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, who established the company with Jerry Greenfield, revealed that he plans to personally create the controversial product within an individual series highlighting issues Ben & Jerry's was barred from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Conflict Between Founders versus Parent Company

The recent announcement escalates the continuing conflict among the world-famous dessert company and its corporate parent, the British packaged goods corporation which has owned Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

The co-founders have claimed that the parent company and its ice cream arm Magnum improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Flavor becoming an Emblem of Support

Mr. Cohen revealed via social media how he is creating a new watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, requesting consumer ideas regarding the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem of solidarity with Palestinians because of its coloration, which match those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Activism plus Current Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell its products in areas occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever selling the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series will be developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company which originally established in 2016 to support ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Shifts plus Future Intentions

Mr. Cohen indicated that he will develop additional ice cream flavors that address issues that Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly due to corporate restrictions.

The announcement comes after partner Jerry Greenfield resigned from the company recently, after many years with the organization, mentioning concerns regarding how its independence had been compromised after corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen remarked that “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."

"My heart compels me to continue to work inside the company to advocate for its independence ensuring that the company can achieve its ethical purpose, the values which established its foundation while upholding for over 40 years," he told journalists.
