The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing backstories for characters such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears amazing. However, I felt that an element was missing in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track originating from the official score of that title, the second release put out by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. This track that excites you before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of the second series, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
